SAPS TRAINEE

REQUIREMENTS

• possess South African citizenship, for which documentation is required
• be at least eighteen (18) years old and no older than thirty-five (35) years old on the application deadline listed in the applicable advertisement, for which documentation evidence is required
• submit to a physical examination by the National Commissioner, who will evaluate if the individual is medically, intellectually, and physically fit to be appointed to the military
• undergo an evaluation of psychological integrity as decided by the National Commissioner and be deemed to fit the requirements for a police officer
• possess a certificate of completion from grade 12 or a comparable program, for which documentation is required
• be ready to participate in training as the National Commissioner deems appropriate
• must not own any tattoos that would be noticeable when wearing any service uniform
• not been deemed ineligible to own a firearm
• not be facing any criminal charges or convictions in the past
• not have been fired from a prior workplace for grave misconduct, even if the termination was related to any violent or dishonest behavior, sexual harassment or connected to drugs?
• Permit the collection of a fingerprint sample for comparison with the criminal record system
• Permit background checks to be conducted and be ready to go through security screening in order to receive the level of security clearance that the National Commissioner determines.
• Anywhere in the Republic, be ready to serve.

Education

• candidates with a relevant three-year tertiary degree (NQF 6 or above), such as those in criminal law, policing, forensic investigation, etc.
• candidates with an additional three-year tertiary degree (NQF 6 or above)
• Candidates with a Grade 12 diploma who meet the minimal requirements for admission to a bachelor’s degree
• candidates with a Grade 12 diploma who meet the requirements for admission to a diploma program
• and candidates with a Grade 12 diploma who meet the requirements for admission to a higher certificate program.
