A Dispensary Support position is available at the Dis-Chem Pharmacies Rynfield location. The primary goal of this is to hire students who can successfully complete the learner basic pharmacy assistant course. This course encourages the idea of high-quality on-the-job learning by enabling students to comprehend the fundamental concepts underpinning all of the key areas connected to the pharmaceutical environment and dispensing. Until they are registered with the SAPC as learner basic assistants, staff will work in a fixed-term position as dispensary support. Permanent employment won’t be granted until after becoming certified as a fundamental pharmacist assistant.

Minimum Requirements

  • A Grade 12 /Matric or a Senior Certificate which includes Pure Mathematics , Life Science and or Physical Science and should have obtained at least an average of 50% in these subjects.

Job Specification

Dispensary Support personnel who wish to seek for registration with Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Learner Basic Assistant must have passed a competence test.

Under the direct personal supervision of a pharmacist in a pharmacy, a pharmacist’s assistant enrolled in the category of pharmacist’s assistant learner basic may carry out the following services or acts:

  • The distribution of Schedule 1-listed medicines or other substances.
  • Produce, alter, or compound a non-sterile drug or schedule substance in line with a recipe and SOPs that have been approved by the responsible pharmacist.
  • Under the supervision of the competent pharmacist, assist with the unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning of the dispensary and OTC shelves.
  • Anything else the dispensary manager gives them to do.
  • Study script interpretation, as advised by the South African Pharmaceutical Council, to be able to conduct yourself legally compliance, professionally, and responsibly.
  • Make certain that the drug is carefully chosen, packaged, labeled.
